Restorative yoga is designed to engage the parasympathetic nervous system. Holding supported poses for 5-7 minutes, we allow the body to relax, open and the breath to soften. Supported poses means we use lots of props...bolsters, blocks, blankets, sandbags, straps and anything else we can find! This practice will welcome the body to enter into deeper relaxation states as we practice 25-30 minutes of restorative yoga into 25-30 minutes of I AM Yoga Nidra.
Have ready 2 blocks or sturdy hard backed books, 2-3 blankets, a bolster or sturdy pillow, a strap or belt and if you can create a sandbag have that ready too! Use rice or grains in a quart sized zip lock baggie, fill about half full and wrap a towel around the bag. Used for extra weight in certain poses.
I AM Yoga Nidra follows the Amrit Integrative Method of Yoga Nidra. This lineage of Yoga Nidra is designed to drop the brainwaves down to dream like states, moving through the koshas and down into integrative states of relaxation...allowing the body to naturally heal itself. This guided meditation practice is done laying down, supported with a bolster, pillow under the head and a blanket to cover up with. Enter the deepest level of relaxation in this restorative and transformational practice.
